The Ladson, South Carolina community is grieving deeply after the sudden and tragic death of 24-year-old Oakley Meador, who lost his life in a motorcycle crash in Charleston on Monday afternoon. According to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office, Meador was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:13 p.m. following a single-vehicle motorcycle collision near 511 Meeting Street. Authorities confirmed the crash occurred on the I-26 westbound ramp near the Septima P. Clark Parkway, also known as the Crosstown.
Investigators reported that Meador was riding a motorcycle when he lost control while navigating the ramp and struck a barrier wall. The impact caused him to be thrown from the overpass, where he fell into a parking lot below. Emergency responders arrived promptly and attempted life-saving measures, but he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
Officials have not yet released a formal cause of death beyond the traumatic injuries sustained in the crash. At this time, it remains unclear what caused him to lose control, and authorities continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Following the crash, a section of Septima P. Clark Parkway was closed for around two hours as investigators documented the scene, gathered evidence, and worked to safely clear the roadway. Normal traffic flow was later restored once the investigation allowed.
