Authorities in La Réole, France are investigating a tragic late-night crash that claimed the life of a teenager and left two others seriously injured during the early hours of April 16.
According to the Bordeaux prosecutor, Renaud Gaudeul, the incident involved a single vehicle carrying three minors who had reportedly spent the evening together before taking a car belonging to one of their parents. Initial findings suggest the group drove on public roads at what officials described as a clearly excessive speed.
The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Avenue Carnot, where the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car collided with a pillar and burst into flames, creating a devastating scene.
Two passengers, both 16 years old, were able to escape the burning vehicle before emergency responders arrived. They were treated at the scene and later transported to Pellegrin University Hospital in Bordeaux with serious injuries—one suffering a leg injury and the other a pelvic injury.
Tragically, the driver was unable to escape the vehicle and died as a result of the crash. While formal identification is still pending, authorities believe the driver was also a minor.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including evidence gathered from social media that may help establish a clearer timeline of events. The case remains under active investigation as officials work to determine all contributing factors behind the crash.
